Julie Cosgrove is a transformative leader in the credit union industry whose work exemplifies the power of mentorship, advocacy, and innovation. As Chief Talent Officer at Affinity Plus Federal Credit Union, she has redefined workplace culture, elevated women’s leadership, and championed employee-focused practices that have earned Affinity Plus consistent recognition as a national top workplace.

Julie’s leadership is rooted in the credit union philosophy of people helping people. She believes that when you care for employees and members alike, you create a culture that drives both personal and organizational growth. Her work has helped position Affinity Plus as a model for how empathy and innovation can coexist in a high-performing workplace.
She has established herself as a mentor and role model, both within Affinity Plus and across the credit union industry. Julie actively guides young professionals, emphasizing authenticity, humility, and continuous learning. Her mentorship style—marked by direct encouragement, thoughtful feedback, and career coaching—has fostered a culture of support and growth throughout the organization. She created professional development pathways that empower employees to grow into future leaders, with particular attention to women entering the workforce. Initiatives like a fully funded MBA program, expanded access to LinkedIn Learning, and leadership training have helped employees build skills and confidence. She also introduced resilience workshops and DEI-focused programs to prepare staff for leadership in a changing industry.

Beyond Affinity Plus, Julie chairs the Minnesota Credit Union Women’s Leadership Network, a chapter of the Global Women’s Leadership Network. In this role, she facilitates mentorship across the state and creates opportunities for women to advance in their careers. Through these efforts, she has made mentorship a central force in developing the next generation of credit union leaders.
Julie is also a tireless advocate for employees, women in leadership, and inclusive workplace practices. Her leadership has been instrumental in securing progressive employee benefits that go beyond industry norms. She championed paid parental leave, elder care leave, and comprehensive wellness benefits—policies that holistically support employees and their families. Her advocacy has helped shift organizational practices and industry culture toward greater inclusion and representation. Her employee-first approach has earned Affinity Plus national recognition, with staff turnover well below industry averages. Julie’s efforts prove that prioritizing people creates stronger organizations and lasting community impact.

Her commitment to innovation is equally impactful. Julie has pioneered workplace practices that make Affinity Plus an employer of choice. Her vision of a human-centered workplace emphasizes empathy, flexibility, and professional growth. She launched initiatives like Friends and Family Day and supported Plus it forward Day – dedicated times for employees to build relationships, deepen connections, and focus on community service.  These initiatives, paired with professional development opportunities and leadership events, foster both individual growth and collective engagement.

Julie’s focus on inclusive innovation ensures that Affinity Plus’s practices adapt to employee and member needs. During the COVID-19 pandemic, she led efforts to support remote work, maintain strong communication, and keep morale high—demonstrating how innovation and care can guide organizations through uncertainty.
Julie Cosgrove doesn’t just lead—she inspires. Her work shows that mentorship, advocacy, and innovation are not just strategies, but values that can transform workplaces and communities.
