Crissy is a dedicated lifelong volunteer in the credit union industry, passionately
advocating for credit unions and their philosophy. She consistently promotes member ownership
and community empowerment, particularly in underserved rural areas around the world. She is
also a strong supporter of the Children's Miracle Network Hospitals, a credit union charity close
to her heart.
Crissy is a fierce advocate for the underdog, always ready to champion the needs of low-income
families and small businesses. She ensures they have access to fair financial services and the
support necessary to thrive. Whether volunteering at local, national or global events, or donating
to initiatives that strengthen the credit union movement, Crissy is always willing to give her time
and resources.
Over the past 20 years, many have witnessed her deep engagement with credit union boards, the World Council and various projects. In the last 15 years, her impact has been particularly significant. Crissy was one of the earliest supporters of the Global Women’s Leadership Network, attending events, participating in fundraising and serving as an informal mentor to advance women in leadership. Her professionalism and engaging personality have been
instrumental in this role.
Crissy was part of the first WOCCU field engagement to the Busia Orphanage in Kenya, Africa. In Kenya, over a million children have lost one or both parents to the AIDS epidemic, leaving many orphaned and without care. Crissy’s involvement was immediate and impactful. She not only provided essential resources and support but also inspired the community to rally around these vulnerable children, ensuring they have a chance at a better life. Her passion and
commitment are a true reflection of the credit union philosophy in action.
Crissy’s commitment to improving lives and livelihoods in Africa extends beyond her work with the Busia Compassionate Centre. She serves on the board of the African Cooperative Development Foundation (ACDF), which supports ACCOSCA’s mission through collaboration and international funding. Crissy’s leadership and vision have been crucial in addressing development issues and disasters, promoting research on inclusion and health initiatives, and
advocating for education and awareness.
As a member of the Dean's Leadership Council at the UC Irvine School of Education, Crissy is part of a distinguished group of leaders dedicated to advancing the school's mission and vision. In her role, she plays a crucial part in shaping the future of the school by providing philanthropic support, strategic guidance, and advocacy, all of which empower students and educators alike.
Sometimes, the most profound moments that shape our journeys are the ones we least expect, and Crissy has been one of those transformative influences in the lives of many. Her unwavering dedication and passionate advocacy have inspired and empowered countless individuals and communities. Her multifaceted commitment to education and community development is truly remarkable. We are deeply proud and honored to request that she be recognized as an Unsung Hero at the ACUM awards. Crissy’s dedication to the credit union movement is a beacon of hope and a testament to the power of giving back, and we would love for her to receive the recognition she so richly deserves.
