America's Credit Union Museum wins Historic Preservation Award

The award was presented at the Manchester Historic Association's 2003 Preservation Awards dinner.

MANCHESTER, N. H. 5/12/03 –The Manchester Historic Association selected America's Credit Union Museum to receive one of the Manchester Historic Association's 2003 Historic Preservation Awards. The annual Preservation Awards program honors individuals, organizations, or projects that have made important contributions toward preserving Manchester's heritage.

The Awards Committee felt that the creation of the museum preserves a beautiful historic property in the city and the cultural history of the community. The building and St. Mary's Bank Credit Union were significant in the growth of the French Canadian community in Manchester, and as the home to America's first credit union, the building has a significant role in national as well as local history. Preserving the building and installing exhibits on its history tell this important story for all to see. For these reasons, the committee voted to recognize America's Credit Union Museum in the category of Conservation of a Cultural Resource.

The award was presented at the Preservation Awards dinner on Monday, May 12. Accepting the award on behalf of the America's Credit Union Museum was Peggy Powell, Executive Director and Mr. Ronald J. Rioux, Vice Chairman of the Board.
