Manchester, N.H. (November 1, 2004)
--- An exhibit highlighting the Defense Credit Union Council's (DCUC) contributions to the credit union
movement was dedicated recently in a special ceremony at America’s Credit Union Museum in Manchester,
NH.
Representatives from throughout the credit union industry, the Armed Forces Financial Network and the DCUC
attended the opening of the exhibit.
"The DCUC was created 40 years ago to address the challenges of a mobile field of membership. Defense credit
unions today serve more than 10 million Americans and hold more than $85 billion in assets," said Roland
'Arty' Arteaga, president/CEO of the Defense Credit Union Council. "The exhibit in America's Credit Union
Museum celebrates the value that defense credit unions provide to U.S. military personnel worldwide."
The new DCUC exhibit in the Museum includes a room with panels that detail the role of defense credit unions
and a bronze eagle to honor credit union service to U.S. military around the world.

"Throughout my fifty year career in the credit union movement there have been some special moments. The
dedication of the DCUC exhibit is one of those," said Jean Yokem, DCUC Board Chairman and president/CEO of
Hampton, VA-based Langley Federal Credit Union. "I am honored to have the DCUC enshrined in America’s Credit
Union Museum."
Service Credit Union was the catalyst for the establishment of a permanent exhibit for the DCUC at America’s
Credit Union Museum. The $900 million Portsmouth, NH-based military credit union donated $30,000 to the
museum to honor the DCUC.

Shown (L to R) Gordon Simmons, Service Credit Union President/CEO and Treasurer of the DCUC;
Jean Yokem, Langley FCU President/CEO and Chairman of the DCUC and Roland 'Arty' Arteaga,
president/CEO of the Defense Credit Union Council.
"The DCUC is an extremely valuable resource for defense credit unions," said Gordon Simmons, president/CEO
of Service Credit Union and Treasurer of the DCUC board. "The cooperative relationship that the DCUC
fosters is a primary reason for the success of America’s defense credit unions."
