Become a Part of History, Become a Sustaining Member

As a member of the credit union movement, you understand the importance of preserving our rich history and celebrating the remarkable efforts of those who built the credit union movement over the past 100 years.

America’s Credit Union Museum fills a role no other credit union organization or affiliate does. It is where the history of our great movement lives. It collects, archives, preserves, and displays evidence of our roots. It cares for and makes accessible to this generation and all generations to come real examples of our values, our philosophy, and our struggles and successes.

The museum is not only the home of our remarkable ancestral artifacts, it is a distinctive tribute to the founders and leaders -- their vision, their commitment and determination, their sacrifices and special triumphs -- that made it possible for us to be the viable and progressive movement we are today. Everyone’s support is important to maintain and continue the work of your Museum. We invite you to become part of history. We encourage you to become a Sustaining Member. This level is available to Credit unions, credit union organizations, vendors, and individuals that make an annual contribution of $1,000 to the Museum. In appreciation of your contribution, you are granted use of the Museum Conference space and its technical resources, receive recognition on the museum’s web site, in the museum newsletter, and have your name prominently displayed in the museum.

Please contact Peggy Powell, America's Credit Union Museum’s Executive Director at 603-629-1553 or ppowell@acumuseum.org > with any questions. Donors to the 100th Anniversary Campaign and a list of Sustaining Members can be found on the museum website at www.acumuseum.org >.

Reflections of a Field Trip

Central Falls High School in Central Falls, RI, considers a field trip to America’s Credit Union Museum an important part of their participation in the Museum’s CU 4 Reality™ Financial Education Program. The field trip sponsored by Navigant Credit Union provides an opportunity for students who participate to learn about the history of the credit union movement and the founders and leaders who contributed to its success. It also enables them to connect what they have learned in theory from staff at Navigant Credit Union to real life application. Jane Bernardino, Academy Leader at Central Falls Hall School, noted that the field trip was the first time that the majority of the students ever traveled outside of Central Falls. Many of the students mentioned they had never been to New Hampshire and appreciated the opportunity to have an educational experience beyond the classroom.

From a teaching perspective, Mrs. Bernardino stated that the field trip strengthens the students’ knowledge about the history of credit unions. According to Mrs. Bernardino, Navigant Credit Union staff did a great job of building trust with the students during the program and she believes as a direct result the students will be more likely to choose Navigant Credit Union or credit unions in general for their banking needs. She said that it was wonderful of the credit union to reach out into the community.

Museum to be featured in PSAs

The Film House in Nashville, Tennessee recently contacted America's Credit Union Museum regarding a contract it has with the Department of Defense to produce Public Service Announcements (PSAs) for American Forces Radio and Television Service (AFRTS). AFRTS is seen by U.S. service members and their families stationed at military installations overseas.

The Film House is currently doing a series called City Quizzes. There will be 51 – one for each state and Washington DC. The spots are 29 seconds long and will air for 5 years beginning in September 2010. They are set up in a quiz format where three interesting facts will be given for each city and then the city and state will be revealed at the end.

Manchester is the city chosen for NH. One of the facts that will be stated is “this city is the home of the first credit union in the nation and the original building is now a museum.” Footage of the museum will be included as part of the spot.

This opportunity not only provides visibility for America’s Credit Union Museum but also for credit unions in general.
