Former Massachusetts Governor
Mitt Romney Speaks at ACUM
Former Massachusetts Governor and Republican Candidate for President Mitt Romney
made a campaign speech in December at America’s Credit Union Museum, before
dropping out of the race on February 7, 2008.
The speech began on a somber note as Governor Romney addressed the
assassination of Pakistan’s former Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto which
occurred earlier that morning. He spoke of how this tragic event reinforces
the need for the United States to promote stable and democratic governments
overseas.
The governor focused the remainder of his twenty minute speech on his belief
that family values and the work of the American people are the solution to
the challenges that the nation faces. He indicated that American people and
independent enterprise are the best resources for addressing the issues
that the nation faces. In Romney’s words, “The next president is going to
have to lead the nation in a time of dramatic change. He’s going to have to
strengthen our military, strengthen our economy, strengthen our families.
In a number of ways, with the recognition that a lot of humility is
necessary at a time like this, I do believe that the unique experiences
I’ve had in my life have prepared me for facing the entirely new generation
of challenges we face.”
After Romney concluded his remarks, he held a press conference on the first floor of America’s Credit Union Museum before he headed to the Iowa Cauceses.
