The World Council of Credit Unions brought an international element to
America’s Credit Union Museum with the addition of its new exhibit in
2007.
The dress of a typical Afghani woman graces the WOCCU exhibit-
International Flair added to Museum Exhibits
The exhibit tells the story of the founding of the World Council of Credit
Unions and its many contributions to the development of the global credit
union system.
Highlighted in the exhibit is the work WOCCU has done in conflict countries such as
Afghanistan where it works with credit unions to empower their members so
they can take an active role in the decision making process of their
country.
Also featured in the exhibit are the efforts credit unions took to help rebuild
the credit union system following the tragic tsunami in Sri Lanka and its
work in Latin American countries like Ecuador and Guatemala.
Union members are able to make and sell their own products through loans
from their credit unions.
America’s Credit Union Museum (ACUM) promotes the
heritage of the credit union movement through the preservation of the
industry’s history. ACUM is housed in the building of the first U.S. credit
union in Manchester, NH. Additional information about ACUM can be found at
www.acumuseum.com.
Credit unions are not-for-profit financial
cooperatives. They offer a variety of consumer financial services to
370,000 New Hampshire residents and over 85 million Americans. The New
Hampshire Credit Union League represents the 28 consumer-owned credit
unions in the state. For more information, please visit www.nhcul.org.
