Financial Literacy Program Continues to Spread
CU 4 Reality, a financial literacy program through America's Credit Union Museum, recently held fairs at the Museum's facilities on April 19 and 20 sponsored by Bellwether Community Credit union and New Hampshire Federal Credit Union. Other fairs are also scheduled throughout the Spring.
CU 4 Reality is a financial management program being taught to seventh and eighth graders as part of the Math curriculum. Developed by the Financial Literacy Education Committee (FLEC) of America's Credit Union Museum in conjunction with the New Hampshire Credit Union League (NHCUL), the CU 4 Reality Fair is held to get students involved in a hands-on event to propel them through the personal financial management process. Each student received a folder detailing his or her personal information specific to their career choice. Students have to calculate their take-home pay according to their career and create a monthly spending plan as they progressed through the museum to booths representing various categories of expenses they could expect to incur. Students have to make decisions about what they would spend on various items such as food, clothing, housing, transportation, insurance, home furnishings, savings, investments, entertainment and credit.
Below are other credit unions who will be participating in the CU 4 Reality curriculum this Spring:
